International flights coming into Nigeria have been directed to carry a maximum of 200 passengers by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The Director-general/CEO of NCAA Musa Nuhu in a memo released on Friday, September 4, also disclosed that there is no limit on the number of outgoing passengers.

It read “Following the announcement by the presidential task force (PTF) on COVID-19 on the partial resumption of international flights effective September 5, 2020. Kindly note due to the limited number of approved incoming passengers (1,280) allowed daily per each airport, it is not possible to accommodate the requested schedule of airlines. The approved schedule is based on a maximum number of 200 passengers per each incoming flight to Nigeria. There is no limit on the number of outgoing passengers. Each operator has only one frequency on an approved day of operation irrespective of the capacity of aircraft utilised.”

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has revealed that there is no infrastructure to conduct COVID-19 tests upon resumption of international flights on August 29.

Director-General of the NCAA, Musa Nuhu in his speech at Monday, August 24, briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 said operators in the aviation sector had aligned with the pre-departure testing protocol stipulated by the PTF and are working hard to be ready for the August 29 resumption date.

Nuhu said “This entails working closely with the national coordinator and the Port Health Services to develop protocols for testing (of passengers) coming to Nigeria. The aviation sector is quite comfortable and agrees with the protocols of the pre-departure PCR test. We are quite comfortable with that. In addition to that, we do not have the infrastructure at the airports to deal with this. The airports were never built for such. So we need to build infrastructure.”
