The National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) has released the results for the 2020 Ordinary and Advanced level of the November/December examinations.

NABTEB’s Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB, Prof. Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe in in company with other top officials of the board announced this on Monday, in Benin.

A 25,844 candidates scoring five credits and above with or without English Language and mathematics out of the 32,541 that sat for the exam.

She added that 21,175 candidates obtained five credits above including English Language and mathematics.

She disclosed that 75.72 per cent of the total number of candidates (21,175) that sat for the examinations obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics, while 92.42 per cent (25,844 candidates) scored five credits and above, with or without English Language and Mathematics.

She said, “The business of conducting national examinations is a challenging one. This performance is quite rewarding to candidates and statistically similar to those of 2019 November/December. The board has continued to strengthen it quality assurance mechanisms.

“It is gratifying that despite the ravaging effect of Covid-19 pandemic which necessitated the postponement of both the 2020 May/June and November/December certificate examinations, NABTEB was able to successfully conduct the two exams from January 25 to Friday 19, 2021.

“I will like to use this opportunity to remind everyone of the dire need for increased emphasis on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) at all levels in the country. The principal objective of TVET is to train youths and adults, preparing them to develop relevant skills needed for today’s labour market and for academic progression.”

Lagos State Government has directed the JSS3 students who are registered for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) organised by National Examination Council (NECO) to resume on Monday, August 10, to prepare for the examination slated to commence on August 24.

This, according to the government, is in furtherance to the earlier pronouncement directing SS3 and Technical Studies (TEC3) students in the state to resume on Monday, August 3, 2020 to enable them revise and sit for their forthcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and NABTEB.

However, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, who made the pronouncement in her office at the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, said the JSS3 students who are waiting to write BECE organized by the Lagos State Examinations Board are exempted from resuming.

“Only those students who are registered for NECO BECE which is scheduled to commence on the 24th of August, 2020 are permitted to resume, other JSS3 students waiting to write BECE organized by the Lagos State Examinations Board would soon be informed of the scheduled dates of their examination,” she said.

The Commissioner stated that administrators of both public and private schools are expected to ensure full compliance with the COVID-19 guidelines for schools re-opening in their respective schools as the State Government’s officials will be on ground to monitor situations in all schools across the State.

While urging students to be fully prepared for the forthcoming examinations and devote more time to their studies, the Commissioner explained that government has made appropriate arrangements to make learning conducive and the conduct of the examination successful.

She, however, urged students and members of staff to adhere strictly to proper hygienic guidelines and ensure the provision of sanitizers, wash hand basin, thermometers and other essential items in public and private schools across the State, stressing that the washing of hands, wearing of face masks and the maintenance of social distancing must be adhered to.
