NNS OJI (P275), the largest of the series, was specifically manufactured operations in the Gulf of Guinea.

Most of the 43-meter structure are built with steel, generated at Naval Dockyard Limited, a unit of the NN.

OJI has a 30mm remotely operated gun, three 12.7 mm machine guns with an additional 40mm grenade launcher which is optional.

The boat is fitted with modern navigation and communication equipment, a Simrad radar control station, and a RHIB at the rear for boarding.

The SDB 3 followed SDB 1 NNS Andoni (P-100) delivered on June 7, 2012, and SDB 2 NNS Karaduwa (P-102) delivered on December 15, 2016.

In late October 2022, China delivered a 46-meter patrol boat and other military equipment to the Navy.

The handover ceremony took place at the NNS Beecroft Jetty Apapa in Lagos.

Defence Minister, retired Major General Bashir Magashi said the gesture was part of the bilateral agreement between the two countries.

The vessel is similar to the 38m patrol boat, NNS Sagbama, also donated to Nigeria by China in 2015.

The Navy in a statement by its spokesperson Commodore, Saluman Dahun said Abdulgafar who is also a comedian is being held in his unit violating the Armed Forces of Nigeria social media policy.

He also accused Abdulgafar of disobeying “particular orders “given to him.

The statement was titled, ‘Cute Abiola is not missing navy.

It read, “The attention of the Nigerian Navy has been drawn to an online news story which claims that naval personnel, OSCOMP Abdulgafar AA, who incidentally is a popular comedian known as Cute Abiola, has gone missing. The Nigerian Navy wishes to categorically debunk this false news report currently trending online. OSCOMP Abdulgafar is currently under custody in his unit for breaching the Armed Forces Social Media Policy and refusal to obey particular orders. The Nigerian Navy wishes to avail itself of this incident to remind its personnel to comply with the provisions of the Armed Forces Social Media Policy in their usage of social media platforms. “The Policy, amongst others, is emplaced to protect their personal safety and security as well as the information integrity of the activities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”

The officers who are reportedly from a Naval Base in Kaduna state were abducted on Sapele-Warri road.

5 of the officers were rescued after the police acted on an intelligence report. The State Command’s spokesperson, SP. Kotongs Bello confirmed the incident.

Bello said “We rescued five and two others are yet to be rescued. That is the one I am aware of.”

Acting Director of Information DHQ, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, announced that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin, constituted the committee following the directive of President Buhari.

The committee, which would be headed by Rear Admiral I.T. Olaiya, has representatives of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services and the Defence Intelligence Agency.
