Joe Biden’s administration has issued a regional emergency declaration for 17 states and Washington, D.C., to keep fuel supply lines open after a cyberattack on Colonial Pipeline’s infrastructure on Friday, May 7.

Friday night’s cyberattack is “the most significant, successful attack on energy infrastructure” known to have occurred in the U.S., according to Politico.

Colonial Pipeline carries 45% of fuel supplies in the eastern U.S. Some 5,500 miles of the pipeline has been shut down in response to the attack.

While gasoline and diesel prices aren’t expected to be impacted if pipeline operations resume in the next few days, fuel suppliers are becoming “increasingly nervous” about possible shortages, Bloomberg reports.

Colonial said in a statement Sunday while its main fuel lines remained offline, some smaller lines between terminals and delivery points were now operational.

He said “We will bring our full system back online only when we believe it is safe to do so and in full compliance with the approval of all federal regulations”

The US said it’s “working with” fuel pipeline operator Colonial Pipeline to try and restart operations as soon as possible.

The regional emergency declaration by the Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is so that fuel supply lines can be kept open.

The emergency declaration covers Alabama, Arkansas, D.C., Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

The DoT agency said in a statement the declaration “addresses the emergency conditions creating a need for immediate transportation of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and other refined petroleum products and provides necessary relief.”

The attack is a significant breach of critical infrastructure and comes on the heels of multiple other major cyberattacks on both U.S. companies and the federal government in recent months by foreign actors.

North Carolina authorities forged ahead Wednesday with a massive statewide manhunt for a 13-year-old accused of double murder, 24 hours after the teen gave officials the slip following a court appearance.

The North Carolina Department of Public Safety said in a news release that the escaped teen, identified only as Jericho W., escaped Tuesday around 12:10 p.m. after going before a judge in Lumberton.

“Division officials have a high degree of concern for the safety of both the juvenile and the public, due to a prior history of assaultive and unpredictable behavior,” the agency said.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook the teenager escaped from the custody of the state’s Department of Public Safety Transport Team.

The 13-year-old was scheduled to appear in court for two counts of first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapons charge, the sheriff’s office added. It’s not clear if the teenager was being charged as an adult or juvenile, as North Carolina officials told Fox News they couldn’t not comment on the case because it involves a juvenile.

The teen’s mother, Nikki Jacobs, told WRAL-TV her 13-year-old was “out here in the dark.”

“My baby’s out here somewhere, nobody knows, and he is all alone and hopefully he is safe wherever he is at,” Jacobs said. “I just wish that he would come back, turn himself in and get the help that he needs.”

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said the teenager was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and beige pants at the intersection of Highway 72 and Country Club Road in Lumberton. When he made his appearance in juvenile court, he was also wearing leg restraints without any shoes.

Officials have described the 13-year-old as having brown eyes with brown hair. They say he is 5 feet tall and weighs approximately 110 pounds.

“We currently have helicopters from the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, US Marshals from Wilmington and Fayetteville, Lumberton Police and sheriffs deputies are searching for him,” police said. “The Robeson District Attorney’s Office has been on hand, as well.”

At one point, officials warned residents in the area of Planetarium Road about “low-flying helicopters” as darkness fell, in addition to “dozens of officers” deployed on the ground.

Authorities later cleared the area, but said that deputies were continuing to work to find the escaped teenager.

Jericho W. and a 19-year-old were charged in October when deputies found two men, Frank Thomas, 34, and Adam Thomas, 33, dead in a home they shared, WRAL reported at the time.

A North Carolina sheriff is begging for kindness after the mugshot of a Florida man arrested on drug trafficking charges received purely negative comments.

Orlando Lopez, aged 43, of Palm Coast, Fla., was pulled over on Friday for a traffic violation on North Carolina’s I-95. Officers subsequently found 98 grams of cocaine and 35 grams of meth in his vehicle, the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook.

Lopez was charged with two counts of trafficking in methamphetamine, two counts of trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to sell and several other charges. He was held on a $250,000 bond.

But, it wasn’t Lopez’s crime that triggered comments on social media.

After police posted the mugshot and news release on Facebook, users began to leave savage comments about Lopez’s appearance. This triggered the sheriff’s office to leave a note in the release, pleading for civility.

“Even though this individual has been charged for committing a crime, he is still someone’s child/family member,” the department wrote. “It is obvious that he has suffered some type of injury. Please refrain from making jokes/negative comments. Have a blessed day.”

A majority of users echoed the department’s statement and condemned those leaving making jokes about Lopez’s appearance.
