Ahmed Umar, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, confirmed this to newsmen in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

He said, “The accident occurred this morning at about 6:25 am, involving a Mazda bus with registration numbers YYY 412 XB and an unregistered truck.

“The Mazda bus driver who was on high speed crashed into the moving truck from behind due to a slight defect on the truck. The truck’s rear lights made to signal vehicles from behind were not functioning.

“A male child was among the dead. The injured victims were taken to the Victory Hospital, Ogere for medical attention while the deceased have been deposited at the FOS Morgue, Ipara.”

The sector commander advised motorists to ensure that everything is working in their vehicle before embarking on any trip while also cautioning them on speed violations.

He sympathised with the family of the victims and advised them to contact the FRSC Ogere for more information about the crash.

The accident involved an Iveco truck and a Toyota Hiace bus before Ishara Bridge, Ogere.

Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Clement Oladele told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abeokuta on Tuesday, that six people – all male – were involved in the accident with three of them sustaining injuries while three of them died in the crash.

Oladele noted that the accident, which occurred about 8:10 pm, was caused by route violation, saying that the driver of the bus drove against traffic around the construction zone and had a head-on collision with the truck.

“The crash involved two vehicles, a blue coloured Iveco truck with registration number LSR 908 XF and a white coloured Toyota Hiace bus with registration number FST 96 XF.

“The suspected cause of the crash was route violation (driving against traffic) around the construction zone, considering too that it was even dark at night,” he said.

Oladele stated that the injured victims were rescued to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for medical attention while the corpses of the deceased were deposited at the Ishara Morgue.

The sector commander urged motorists to drive cautiously especially around construction zones and resist the urge to drive against traffic for whatever reason.
