We earlier reported that former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh was found guilty of money laundering and now he has been handed a 7 year jail sentence.

Metuh was found guilty of all the seven count charge against him including illegally receiving N400m from former National Security Adviser, Dasuki Sambo in November 2014.

The PDP former spokesperson was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for counts 1, 2, 4 and 7, five years imprisonment in respect of count 3, and three years in respect of counts 5 and 6.

Justice Okon Abang who held that all the years are to run concurrently (meaning Metuh would spend seven years in prison), also ordered the convict to pay a fine of N375m to the Federal Government. Metuh’s firm, Destra Investments was ordered to pay N25m to the Federal Government.

The Federal High Court Judge also ordered the winding up Destra Investments, closure of its accounts in Diamond Bank and Asset Resource Management, and the forfeiture of the money in the accounts to the Federal Government.

Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Olisa Metuh has been found guilty of money laundering in the sum of N400 million by  the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The trial judge, Justice Okon Abang, found Olisa guilty on Tuesday while delivering judgement in the suit instituted against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The anti-graft agency charged Metuh with seven counts bordering on criminal diversion of the money received from the office of the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

Delivering judgement in the case, Justice Abang convicted the former PDP spokesman of count one of the charges.

He said “It is my view that Metuh took possession of the N400 million from the office of the NSA without contractual agreement; he is guilty of money laundering and is hereby convicted on count one.”

Olisa Metuh has lost in a bid to stop his criminal trial before the High Court in Abuja.

In a ruling on Thursday, Justice Ishaq Bello rejected a no-case application made by Metuh in his trial for alleged destruction of evidence while he was being investigated by the Economic and Finance Crimes Commission  in relation to the purported looting of funds meant for the purchase of arms and ammunition during the President Goodluck Jonathan administration.

The judge ordered Metuh to enter defence in respect of the prima facie case already established against him by the prosecution, led by Sylvanus Tahir
