The meeting which began at 04:25 pm is the President’s first meeting with the former governors who were elected at the dawn of the fourth republic.

Wednesday’s meeting is at the instance of Tinubu, who was also elected governor of Lagos State at the time.

Present are Olusegun Osoba of Ogun, Bisi Akande of Osun, Lucky Igbinedion of Edo, Saminu Turaki of Jigawa, James Ibori of Delta, Donald Duke of Cross Rivers, Niyi Adebayo of Ekiti, Orji Kalu of Abia, Obong Attah of Akwa Ibom and Sam Egwu of Ebonyi State.

Also present are Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu), Ibrahim Turaki (Jigawa), Adamu Muazu (Bauchi), Ahmad Yerima (Zamfara), Jolly Nyame (Taraba), Attahiru Bafarawa (Sokoto) and Joshua Dariye (Plateau).

EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa, disclosed this on Thursday while addressing journalists during the weekly ministerial chat at the State House in Abuja.

He said Kalu “will be prosecuted all over again.”

The anti-graft agency boss also said he is not perturbed over the threats to his life and he is determined to prosecute the many pending cases under trial.

Recall that Kalu had been convicted up to the Court of Appeal before the Supreme Court set him free on technical grounds.

Bawa revealed that since he resumed office, a number of recoveries have been made including N6billion, $161million, £13,000 pounds, €1,730 among others.

Internet fraudsters numbering 1,502 have also been apprehended between January to June 2021and efforts are underway to file about 800 of them. A hundred cases will be filed in court.

Kalu said this on a programme at a radio station in Umuahia, Abia state capital while speaking on his presidential ambition in 2023. According to him, he is more than capable to do the job of a president.

He said “Yes, if you give me the presidency, why not, I will take. I am capable of doing the job. The problem is who is capable of doing the job. For now, I am focusing on my constituency; there is a lot of jobs to be done. If you give me an opportunity, I will like to go back to the Senate for a second term, but if the people of Nigeria want me to be president, they will show the hand. I can do the job. I can build a 20th-century economy for our people.”

The Senate Chief Whip was convicted and sentenced last December for embezzling N7.1 billion of state funds while he was the Governor of Abia State.

The Senate President said; “He (Kalu) was on several appeals and until he exhausted all the opportunities available to him, that seat remained his seat. Similarly the position of the Chief Whip, we didn’t even appoint an acting Chief Whip. The Deputy Chief Whip continued to play that role until he was released. We came under pressure, of course. But we thought the right thing to do was to keep that seat, that position until he was able to get his judgement. It would have been premature, unjust and unfair to declare his seat vacant or his position to be given away because he was in that situation. So we didn’t do anything extraordinary really. We did what was right, what was just, what was necessary.”
