The 42-year-old died in his sleep on Wednesday in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, where he was based with his family.

The deceased, who was the Assistant Pastor in charge of Region (Youth) 35, had ministered the previous day. He was said to have retired to his bed and did not wake up.

His wife, Temiloluwa, was said to have raised the alarm.

The Head of Media and Public Relations, RCCG, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi, however, confirmed the tragedy on Thursday morning.

He said, “It is true. The incident happened in Eket where he was based. I don’t have the details for now. Maybe before the end of today, we will issue a statement.”

He stated this in his “Prophecies for 2021” released after the church’s virtual crossover service.

God says He will begin to deal with nations on an individual basis so that in any nation if God’s people will humble themselves and pray, He will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14. God wants us in Nigeria to know that only God can lift a siege. 2 Kings 7:1-end. The humble who put their trust in God will see the end of the siege. James 4:6”

Adeboye declared his support for the protest in a tweet posted on his handle.

He tweeted “Our daughters will not be able to prophesy and young men will not see visions if we don’t keep them alive. I support the youths in this peaceful protest as they “speak up” to #EndPoliceBrutality #EndSARS #ENDSWAT”

Before leading his church’s members for the protest, Pastor Adeboye led his congregation on prayers for the peace and security of the country at his church’s monthly Thanksgiving Service.

He said “Lord, have mercy on Nigeria. Let there be peace and security in Nigeria. God sees all things and knows where the terrorists are hiding, we pray that God sends His light to Nigeria and expose the evildoers in the country. After the service, we are all going for a prayer walk. We’ll march according to age. There are some who would march around the church because of their age and there are some who would march with me to Atan Cemetery and back.”

Contrary to his earlier comment, Pastor Adeboye have now said that it was only one pastor of the church that was abducted by kidnappers along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Thursday August 1st.

He made the clarification while addressing pastors of the Church at the Redemption camp along Lagos-Ibadan express way.

He said investigations by the police has shown that it was only one pastor of the church that was kidnapped alongside four other persons.

Adeboye made this announcement on Friday, August 2, while giving a talk at the church camp along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, explaining that the ministers have been adopted since on Thursday, August 1, along the Ijebu-Ode axis.

Pastor Adeboye, while admonishing the congregation to pray for the release of the abductees, noted that it was the first time incident of such magnitude will occur.

“As a father, how do you think I should feel to hear that five of my children have been kidnapped while on their way to attend the ministers’ conference?” he queried.
