Thursday is election day in the United Kingdom — and constituents were making sure their furry four-legged friends get in on the action.

Using the trending Twitter hashtag “#dogsatpollingstations,” voters were showing up to the polls Thursday with their best pals posting photographic evidence of the experience on social media.

“Forget politics, this is the main reason to log onto Twitter today,” one Twitter user joked. “Delighted to announce there were dogs at my polling station this morning,” another tweeted.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, of the Conservative Party, joined in on the fun when he brought his dog, a Jack Russell cross named Dilyn, to vote with him in London.

Sadiq Khan, the Labour Party’s mayor of London, also brought his pooch named Luna to the polls and posted a video online encouraging people to vote.

Some dogs went to the polls dressed up — in fun costumes from a bumblebee to Santa Claus — while other dogs’ owners announced who they were voting for online.

It was not immediately clear how many dogs actually got inside voting booths. According to the electoral commission’s rules, animals, “apart from assistance dogs, are not usually allowed inside polling stations so will need to be secured outside if you do decide to take them with you.”

It is hoped Thursday’s election, which is being held more than two years ahead of schedule, will break Britain’s political impasse over Brexit and determine its future relationship with the European Union. Additionally, all 650 seats in the House of Commons seats are up for grabs.

Anti-government protests in Iraq called out corruption, poor services and a lack of jobs; reaction and analysis from retired Lt. Col. Dakota Wood, senior research fellow for defense programs at the Heritage Foundation.

Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi announced Friday he would resign after more than 40 anti-government protesters were killed by security forces a day earlier, as deadly confrontations between demonstrators and authorities continue across Baghdad and southern Iraq.

The move comes 13 months after Abdul-Mahdi, 77, took office, which triggered celebrations by anti-government protesters who’ve called for reforms to root out corruption, fix the country’s high employment and improve public services.

“I will submit to parliament an official memorandum resigning from the current prime ministry so that the parliament can review its choices,” he said in a statement.

He was appointed Iraq’s fifth prime minister following the 2003 U.S.-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein.

Iraq’s top Shiite cleric, the Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, also called for lawmakers to withdraw their support for the prime minister.

Abdul-Mahdi said he “listened with great concern” to al-Sistani and made his decision in response to his call and in order to “facilitate and hasten its fulfillment as soon as possible.”

On the street near Baghdad’s packed Tahrir Square, people celebrated with caution.

“The political system will replace him with someone exactly the same,” said Taif, a 39-year-old protester. “Until this sick system is destroyed, we won’t leave.”

Another named Mortada, 21, said protesters want electoral reforms and “real change.”

“It’s not one man, it’s the whole system that needs to resign,” he said.

Both Taif and Mortada declined to give them full names for fear of retaliation.

Nearly 400 people have been killed since protestsbroke out nearly two months ago amid widespread dissatisfaction with the government. If accepted when put to a vote, Abdul-Mahdi would be the second Arab leader to be forced out by mass protests in recent months.

Saad Hariri resigned as Lebanon’s prime minister on Oct. 29, which has resulted in gridlock and uncertainly in that country’s political system.

After MPs were solidly behind the British PM’s call for an election as a result of months of Brexit deadlock, the UK is ready to hit the polls on December 12th.

The House of Commons consented the legislation by a wide margin of 438 votes to 20. Making the first December election since 1923 possible.

However, the bill yet to be approved by the Lords could become law before the week runs out.

There will be a five-week campaign up to polling day if that goes into effect.

The PM, Boris Johnson believes that the citizens of Britain must be “given a choice” over Brexit’s future and the country as a whole.

The Brexit deal and Parliamentary deadlock have been the cause of the UK’s exit being further extended to 31st January. Nonetheless, Boris Johnson hopes that the election will give him a fresh mandate.

“It is time to come together to get Brexit done,” The PM said as he exited a meeting of the 1922 Committee of backbench Conservatives held shortly after the vote.

On Tuesday, British PM, Boris Johnson is to make another attempt for 12 December general elections notwithstanding MPs turning down his plan.

In previous attempts, two-thirds were required, however, the PM will publish a bill that would only require just a simple majority to be successful.

However, he would still need the full support of the SNP and Lib Dems for the bill to pass.

Labour said that Boris Johnson, the PM should not be trusted despite the prime minister telling MPs Parliament was “dysfunctional and could no longer keep this country hostage”.

Well short of the two-thirds majority the bill needed to be a success under the Fixed-Term Parliaments Act, the government’s election motion was backed by Commons by 299 to 70.

Along with the SNP and DUP, a greater majority of Labour MPs refused to vote even as all Conservative MPs were in full support of the Motion. However, all but just one Dem MPs voted against it.

The prime minister officially accepted the European Union’s offer of an adjunct to the Brexit process to January 31st, then the vote came after.

The PM said the further three-month extension which he stood his ground was forced upon him by Parliament was “unwanted” according to the contents of a letter to EU officials.
