Femi Adesina, President Muhamadu Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, has described the RevolutionNow protest which was held in different parts of the country as an ‘irritation.’

Recall that the Department of State Services, DSS on Wednesday, Agba Jalingo and some co-protesters were arrested in Lagos and later freed by a mobile court in Oshodi.

Olawale Bakare and some co-protesters wearing orange-coloured caps around Olaiya area of Osogbo, Osun State were also arrested and several others were arrested by the police and the Nigerian Army in Abuja.

Adesina, while speaking during his appearance on Channels Tv on Thursday describe the protest as a child’s play, noting that it was funny to call such protest a revolution.

According to him, revolution protests by their nature are meant to turn the normal order.

”What happened yesterday was just an irritation. They are just a sprinkle of people trying to be funny. As far as I am concerned it is nothing to be concerned about. When you talk of revolution, it is always a mass team not those sprinkle of young boys and girls we saw in different parts of the Country. I think it is just a funny thing to call it a revolution protest.

”I stand by my statement that what we saw was child’s play. In a country of 200 million people, if you see that sprinkle of people saying they are doing a revolution match then it was like a child’s play,” he said.

When asked if the government determines how it reacts to protests by the size of people involved, Adesina affirmed, saying the size of the protesters will always matter.

He added, ”revolution are points well known. it is something that turns the normal order. What happened yesterday was just an irritation.”

Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) has said that the convener of #RevolutionNow protests, Omoyele Sowore, ought to have been charged to court by now.

Falana, who spoke with newsmen on Tuesday, said that he expected Sowore to have been arraigned on Monday because, by law, a suspect should not be kept in detention without arraignment within 48 hours of arrest.

While responding to question on what he would do on account of the extended detention of the human rights activist, he said, “I have sent lawyers to the DSS as of Tuesday morning and I’m awaiting feedback.”

Falana, who disagreed with the Police that Sowore was liable to be prosecuted for treason for allegedly planning to overthrow a democratically-elected government through a revolution, said arrangements had been made to defend the activist if he is arraigned.

Recall that the publisher of Sahara Reporters and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the February 2019 elections was arrested in the early hours of Saturday by operatives of the Department of State Services in a hotel in Lagos.

The state agency said Sowore was arrested on account of the  #RevolutionNow protest which he had spearheaded.

The protests held on Monday, August 5, 2019, in some states of the federation.

Security agents clamped down on the Monday protesters and made arrests. Twenty-six of those arrested were arraigned in a Lagos court on Tuesday.

Sowore was moved to Abuja on Sunday morning and is currently being detained in the custody of the DSS.
