Only a few hours into 2020 and Missouri’s second largest city recorded four homicides in multiple shootings across St. Louis.

The St. Louis Police Department told KMOV the incidents – in which a total of eight people were shot – began rolling in shortly after midnight, when a teenager was shot in the thigh in a neighborhood on the city’s northwest side.

The teenager was rushed to an area hospital and was listed in stable condition, police said.

Not even a half-hour after the first incident was reported, three people were found fatally shot in an intersection in the city’s Benton Park neighborhood. A fourth victim was discovered shot in the leg at the location just before 12:30 a.m.

Officials told FOX2 the victims have not been identified and no arrests have been made in connection with those shootings.

Burned remains found in a rural Illinois county have been positively identified as a woman who disappeared in 2010 after she went on a secret weekend trip with a girlfriend.

Illinois State Police confirmed Tuesday the remains found in Jefferson County in December 2017 were 41-year-old Benedetta “Beth” Bentley.

New information had led cold case detectives assigned to the missing-persons case to the location where the remains were found, Fox 2 Now St. Louis reported.

Bentley, of Woodstock, Ill., was reported missing in May 2010 after she failed to return home from a weekend trip with a friend, Jennifer Wyatt, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Wyatt told police she last saw Bentley in Centralia, Ill., where she dropped her off at an Amtrak station to catch a train home, according to the paper. She never boarded a train.

The case has perplexed police because Bentley had told her husband she was going to Wisconsin with Wyatt for the weekend, according to the Tribune.

However, Wyatt said they drove to Mount Vernon when they met up with Wyatt’s boyfriend and others, the paper added.

Wyatt was charged in 2012 with lying to police investigating Bentley’s disappearance, the Northwest Herald reported at the time.

A few months later, a judge dismissed those charges on legal grounds.

The paper reported contacting Wyatt in 2017 after the discovery of the remains.

“They told me not to say anything right now,” she said at the time.

“Foul play” was said to have been involved in the demise of a 21-year-old female University of Mississippi student found dead near a lake this weekend, officials said.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department said that the body of Alexandria “Ally” Kostial was found Saturday morning in Harmontown, located about 20 miles from the Ole Miss campus in Oxford, Miss.

Sheriff’s officials told FOX13 Memphis “foul play” was apparent, but no cause of death was immediately released.

Neighbors in the area told WMC-TV that the remote neighborhood was swarmed by first responders on Saturday morning.

“I was sitting on the couch and saw the ambulance go by and was curious and went outside and then the next thing I know the coroner came by and two unmarked vehicles,” Michelle Bramlett told the television station.

Deputies with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab are “actively working” the case, in addition to the University of Mississippi Police Department and the Oxford Police Department, FOX13 reported.

Officials from the sheriff’s office said they are not releasing any additional information at this time.

Kostial was from St. Louis, Missouri and was a 2016 graduate of Lindbergh High School, FOX2 reported.

The 21-year-old was working toward a bachelor’s degree in marketing in the School of Business Administration at the University of Mississippi.

University of Mississippi Interim Chancellor Larry Sparks said in a statement to FOX13 the school was “truly saddened” by her death.

“Ally was a valued member of our campus community,” Sparks said. “We extend our deepest sympathy to her family, friends and classmates and stand ready to support them during this time. We appreciate the work of the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department and Coroner as they conduct their investigation.”
