A gunman opened fire inside a Kroger grocery store in a Memphis, Tennessee suburb, killing one person and injuring 13 others before he shot and killed himself.

The shooting was reported around 1.30 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, at the supermarket located 30 miles east of Memphis, Tennessee.

Authorities arrived minutes later at 1.34 and began helping victims. Two medical helicopters were flown into the area to evacuate victims.

Those who were injured were taken to area hospitals and their conditions range from minor to extremely serious, authorities said.

Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane said in a press conference: “It breaks my heart to have to stand before you today. We’ve had an incident here in Collierville that has occurred all over the country. This is the most horrific event to happen in Collierville history.”

Both customers and employees were among those injured, Glenda McDonald, an employee at Kroger told FOX13 Memphis. While McDonald wasn’t injured, she was shaken. She only heard a gunshot and ran out the door, she told the Fox affiliate. “We found people hiding in freezers, in locked offices. They were doing what they had been trained to do: run, hide, fight,” Chief Lane told reporters at the scene. Brignetta Dickerson, a 33-year-old Kroger employee, told reporters that she saw one of her coworkers shot in the head and a customer shot in the stomach after the gunfire began in the deli.

Authorities said the shooter turned the gun on himself after killing one person and injuring multiple people. The Shelby County Sheriff’s office is helping with the investigation. Law enforcement officials believe the gunman acted alone.

Joe Biden’s administration has issued a regional emergency declaration for 17 states and Washington, D.C., to keep fuel supply lines open after a cyberattack on Colonial Pipeline’s infrastructure on Friday, May 7.

Friday night’s cyberattack is “the most significant, successful attack on energy infrastructure” known to have occurred in the U.S., according to Politico.

Colonial Pipeline carries 45% of fuel supplies in the eastern U.S. Some 5,500 miles of the pipeline has been shut down in response to the attack.

While gasoline and diesel prices aren’t expected to be impacted if pipeline operations resume in the next few days, fuel suppliers are becoming “increasingly nervous” about possible shortages, Bloomberg reports.

Colonial said in a statement Sunday while its main fuel lines remained offline, some smaller lines between terminals and delivery points were now operational.

He said “We will bring our full system back online only when we believe it is safe to do so and in full compliance with the approval of all federal regulations”

The US said it’s “working with” fuel pipeline operator Colonial Pipeline to try and restart operations as soon as possible.

The regional emergency declaration by the Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is so that fuel supply lines can be kept open.

The emergency declaration covers Alabama, Arkansas, D.C., Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

The DoT agency said in a statement the declaration “addresses the emergency conditions creating a need for immediate transportation of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and other refined petroleum products and provides necessary relief.”

The attack is a significant breach of critical infrastructure and comes on the heels of multiple other major cyberattacks on both U.S. companies and the federal government in recent months by foreign actors.

A Tennessee teenager charged in the death of a Nashville police officer after she crashed into his patrol vehicle allegedly had traces of marijuana in her system at the time, according to local reports.

Jayona Brown, now 18, is facing several charges, including vehicular homicide, in the death of Metropolitan Nashville Police Officer John Anderson, who was killed on July 4.

During a hearing Thursday, it was revealed that Brown tested positive for THC three hours after the crash, Fox 17 reported. There were no other impairments listed in the blood test.

Brown’s attorney, Michie Gibson, told Fox News in July that the teen snuck out of her mom’s home early on July 4 with her aunt’s 2016 Ford Fusion.

Metro Nashville Police said an officer tried to pull Brown over but she took off and crashed into Officer Anderson’s patrol vehicle after running a flashing red traffic light, killing him.

Anderson, a four-year veteran of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) and a father of an 18-month-old son, was heading to a nearby highway to assist a fellow officer with a pedestrian who was reported to have been in a traffic lane waving his arms, police said.

A Tennessee man is accused of slashing his boss’ throat with a steak knife on Friday after returning to work from time off to de-stress, according to local reports.

John Herren, 40, walked into his workplace, the civil engineering firm Dale & Associates, in Berry Hill, Tenn., carrying two knives, walked behind his supervisor’s desk allegedly grabbed his head and slashed his throat, The Tennessean reported, citing an affidavit.

The alleged attack occurred at about noon.

The supervisor and Herren both ran out of the office, the newspaper reported. Herren took the knife he allegedly used but dropped a second knife.

Berry Hill Police reportedly recovered the dropped knife.

Doctors treated the supervisor at a nearby hospital for “superficial lacerations on his throat,” the Tennessean reported, adding that emergency medical services noted that the outcome could have been a lot worse since the cut was very close to a main artery.

Five bounty hunters and bondsmen who were facing kidnapping and other charges in connection with the killing of a Tennessee father have been found not guilty, according to a report.

Jason Milan, a 24-year-old father of three, was shot down on April 23, 2017, in Clarksville, Tenn., when bounty hunters shot at a vehicle he was in while looking for another man, according to police.

Defense attorneys said that their clients didn’t know their intended target wasn’t in the vehicle and were acting in self-defense when the car sped off and hit several bounty hunters.

A jury heard almost three weeks of testimony before returning the verdict on Thursday, the Leaf-Chronicle reported.

The five defendants each faced 16 charges. Two others reached plea deals previously. One guilty verdict was returned on Thursday. 28-year-old Joshua Young was convicted of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.
