The post Lesotho swear in new Prime Minister first appeared on InsideOjodu.]]> A new Prime Minister has been sworn into office in Lesotho after embattled Thomas Thabane formally resigned following months of pressure over his alleged involvement in the murder of his estranged wife.

Moeketsi Majoro, the country’s Finance Minister took his oath of office at the palace of King Letsie III in the capital Maseru with his predecessor in attendance but Moeketsi did not give a speech.

Thabane officially offered his resignation on Tuesday morning, three months after police named him and his current wife Maesaiah as suspects in the murder of his former spouse, Lipolelo.

The post Lesotho’s first lady charged with murder first appeared on InsideOjodu.]]> Lesotho’s first lady, Maesiah Thabane has been charged with murder in connection with the 2017 killing of prime minister Thomas Thabane’s former wife, Lipolelo Thabane.

Maesiah Thabane returned on Tuesday afternoon and turned herself in for questioning over the brutal killing. Police said she had been hiding in South Africa.

The 42-year-old was remanded in custody and charged with murder alongside eight others who are in Lesotho and South Africa, police confirmed.

Deputy police commissioner Paseka Mokete said that there was a ‘strong case’ against the first lady and that investigations had been ‘satisfactorily completed’.
