Senator Rufai Hanga, founder and pioneer national chairman of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) which President Muhammadu Buhari once contested for a presidential election on, has revealed that there was an agreement that power will be handed over to the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu in 2023.

Hanga who chaired one of the parties which collapsed to form the APC in 2014, disclosed that Tinubu remained in the APC after Buhari’s first term because of this agreement.

He told Daily Trust “This is an open secret. There was an implied agreement. Even in law, there is implied and expressed act. If something is expressed, there are no two ways about it. There was an implied agreement that he would take over. That is why he didn’t back out after the first tenure. If Tinubu knew that he would not benefit, he would have backed out during Buhari’s first tenure. But he knows there was an agreement.”

The former CPC Chairman however added that he doubts Tinubu will be given APC’s presidential ticket in 2023, as there might be a fight with power blocs among governors and some forces in the Presidency.

A Wikipedia page showing a short biography of All Progressives Congress chieftain, Bola Tinubu has been locked after the age section of his profile was reportedly edited 84 times.

The age of the former Governor of Lagos was edited several times following the controversy that trailed his 69th birthday celebration on Monday, March 29. It was learnt that numerous accounts took to Wikipedia to edit Tinubu’s age from 69 to 79 after many social media users suggested that he is above the age he celebrated yesterday.

84 edits were carried out on Tinubu’s page on his birthday and most of them were on the age section of his profile.

Vandalism for Wikipedia is “editing (or other behaviour) deliberately intended to obstruct or defeat the project’s purpose”.

The first edit was carried out at Lagos Island, before being done in United Kingdom, Ireland, Saudi Arabia, and a few other countries around the world.

Former governor of Lagos state, Bola Tinubu has appealed to the federal government to protect Nigerians from hunger and other disease while fighting the Coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement released on Wednesday April 15, Tinubu averred that social intervention programmes will only cater for small scale traders and leave out the average salary earners who lost their jobs because of the lockdown order.

Tinubu said “We dare not underestimate the twin dangers posed by the virus itself and the economic consequences of the public health response. Our goal must be that the people live neither with disease nor in hunger. This situation presents a historic chance to establish a more beneficial social contract between the government and the governed. If we so utilize this moment, it will be recorded as a pivotal one in our national history. If we allow this moment to slip, history will not be obliged to treat us with great mercy. The worst of this dark potential can be avoided if the government is prepared to act in ways that not only feed people but protect the basic contours of our private-sector economy so that it can more quickly revive once normal conditions return.
The APC chieftain recommended;
Suspension/amendment of the 5% deficit limit of the fiscal responsibility law which prohibits fiscal deficit from exceeding 5% of the nation’s gross domestic product. “The best step would be to suspend the 5% budgetary limit for this fiscal year. Alternatively, the limit should be raised to 25-30% to allow the federal government more room to make the minimum expenditures necessary to save the economy and the people,”

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu has said leaders of the country must handover a strong and vibrant nation to young Nigerians.

Tinubu said young Nigerians are the destiny of the nation, adding that the youths will be better equipped if their education is entrenched on innovation and new technology.

The APC National Leader said this while receiving an honorary degree of Human Letters given to him by Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State.

He said: “Education is the light of a nation, the lamp that helps us see where we are, and the path we must take to realise our greatness. To educate a generation is to secure that path and that greatness.

“Indeed, all of us must continue to do all within our capacities, individually and collectively, so that we can direct the ship of state with a steady helm and hand over a vibrant and strengthened nation to these young leaders assembled before us.

“Our young people deserve the best of what we can give them. Founded in 2005, this university is dedicated to that excellent and correct purpose.

“We must all board the train of progress; otherwise, it will pass us by. Our universities must embrace innovation and new technology so as to equip our talented youth with the skills for progress in the 21st Century.

“This way, we break the fetters of underdevelopment and expand the boundaries of economic, intellectual and moral growth.

“And finally, to you young people, you have much to learn. Some of the learning will be in the classroom of this university. Some will be in the classroom of life. Never stop learning.

“Yet, you also have much to offer. Do not be afraid to dare to be great. You are the destiny and true greatness of this nation. Never forget it.”
