The frantic search for a missing 2-year-old girl lost in the Oregon wilderness had a happy ending after the toddler was found safe by a woman on horseback and her dog.

Tammy Stevens, 59, of Beaverton, was out for a ride Thursday morning with her horse, Bo, and her dogs, Wilson and Maddie, miniature Australian Shepherds, when she joined the search for the missing girl, according to Sgt. Marcus Mendoza, a spokesman for the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.

Little Iris Nix was walking with her grandmother on a trail in the Molalla River Recreation Area when she ran ahead and out of sight, Mendoza said.

He said as Stevens scouted terrain she described as steep and dangerous, she heard a child crying.

“I said to Wilson, ‘Go get her and show me the way,’” Stevens said in a recorded interview with a deputy.

“Wilson was climbing for her so I tied Bo up and then climbed up, really steep, super steep, about 70 feet and there she was,” she said. “She was pretty upset.”

Iris was out for a walk with her grandmother Gayla Ann Jay, 62, of Molalla, and a sibling, when she disappeared. Her grandmother looked for 15 minutes and then summoned help from loggers passing by.

“Yeah, 15 minutes I could tolerate. After 15 minutes I started to lose it,” Gayla told Fox 12 Oregon.

Iris was lost in the wood for about two hours.

“It was a really good story,” Stevens said. “I’m so thankful.”

In July, a toddler fell to her death on a cruise ship according to the Puerto Rican authorities and her grandfather has been held responsible for her death.

He has been charged with negligent homicide in the death of the toddler.

The grandfather by the name of Salvatore “Sal” Anello was playing with his granddaughter on the 11th floor just close to the docked ship in Puerto Rico when Anello sat the girl on the open windows with the thoughts that it was shut, according to the attorney of the family.

Thus, prosecutors allege that he negligently exposed his granddaughter through one of the windows, according to a statement from the Puerto Rican Department of Justice.

However, the family’s attorney came to the granddad’s defence when they said, “Grandfather did not dangle baby from cruise ship window. This is not the Michael Jackson story.”

Unfortunately for the family, the San Juan judge “found cause for arrest against the accused, and imposed a bail of $80,000″, the governor’s office said.

After the accident, Chloe’s parents pointed fingers at the cruise line company, Royal Caribbean, blaming them for their daughter’s demise, saying point-blank that the windows should have been shut.

An attorney representing the family, Michael Winkleman, said that the “criminal charges are pouring salt on the open wounds of this grieving family,” in a civil suit against the cruise line company.

“Clearly this was a tragic accident and the family’s singular goal remains for something like this to never happen again,” Winkleman said in a statement.

A woman in California was apprehended and consequently charged on Friday with the death of her daughter after allegedly leaving her alone in a running car overnight with the heater on and a blanket covering her, according to officials.

The LA County district attorney’s office announced Friday that 34-year-old Lacey Ana Mazzarella of Rancho Palos Verdes has been charged with one count each of murder and child neglect resulting in death.

Mazzarella allegedly left her daughter, 2-year-old June Love Agosto, in a car on Sept. 22 and returned early the next morning to find the child dead, according to Deputy District Attorney David Zygielbaum.

“The engine and heater were both left running, the prosecutor added,” the office said in a news release.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a prior news release that deputies at the Carson station responded to a location regarding a “baby not breathing call” and found the 2-year-old unresponsive. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics transported the girl to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

In an initial coroner’s report obtained by FOX11, the mother admitted to police she left the child alone in the car at about 11 p.m. on Sept. 21 before getting into another vehicle to drink alcohol with a friend. She told authorities she then fell asleep.

The woman told police she had put the 2-year-old in her car seat with a blanket on her, the windows rolled up, and the heat on for about four to five hours, according to the report obtained by FOX11.

When the 34-year-old mother woke up several hours later, she said she checked on her toddler to find vomit on the child’s clothes with burns to the girl’s face, chest and arms.

“Skin was coming off the decedent’s back,” the report also obtained by KTLA said.

In the coroner’s report, the mother said she placed June outside on the lawn and sprayed her with a hose in an attempt to revive her and cool her off. Paramedics took the child to an area hospital, but she was found to be in full cardiac arrest.

“She’s my only grandchild. I just came out here and June celebrated her second birthday. June Love was a beautiful baby, she deserved a good life. She deserved to grow up, go to school,” the child’s grandmother, Helen Hernandez, told FOX11.

During her arraignment on Friday afternoon, Mazzarella entered a not guilty plea as a preliminary hearing was scheduled for Oct. 23, according to KTLA.

Prosecutors said the 34-year-old faces up to 15 years to life in prison if convicted as charged. Bail was requested by prosecutors at $1.15 million, the DA’s office said.

The child’s official cause of death has yet to be determined, pending the result of additional forensic tests.

Officials said the incident remains under investigation.

In China, a three-year-old boy escaped death as he fell from a sixth-floor apartment balcony on Monday thanks to a group of quick-thinking onlookers who used a blanket to break his fall.

The event occurred just about 4 p.m. in a residential community in Chongqing, located in the southwest part of the country.

“I looked up and saw a little child was dangling up there. My first reaction was to find something to catch him,” Zhu Yanhui, a staff member of the property management company, told CCTV. “I thought about rushing over there and catch him with my bare hands, but that would not have worked.”

Video recorded by onlookers at the scene showed the toddler holding on to the balcony edge as onlookers gathered under the building.

Onlookers then formed a circle with a white blanket underneath the toddler.

20-month-old child survives 60-foot plunge from apartment after landing on a car parked below, breaking his fall.

“I held out the blanket along with others all the while keeping my eyes on the child,” Zhu Yanhui told CCTV. “I looked at the blanket wondering whether we could catch him safely. My only thought was to keep him safe.”

The toddler can then be seen falling from the balcony towards the group waiting below and landing safely on the blanket.

“I was there at the moment and helped hold out the blanket. Ten seconds later, the boy fell,” Zhou Xiaobo, staff of property management company, told CCTV. “It all happened so fast.”

The three-year-old was then rushed to an area hospital, but sustained no injuries, according to CCTV. Police have said the boy was left alone in the apartment while his grandmother went grocery shopping.
