Davido made this known in an interview on the Morning Show on Hot 97FM, New York, which was shared on Saturday.

He stated that he and Wizkid had a 12-year rift and that they only began talking after his son died.

Speaking in the video, he said, “With Wiz, over the years we had a rift, for 12 years we had a rift up until recently he chatted up and I am seeing the positivity.

“I am seeing the change in the industry a little bit because everybody is calming down, especially with my situation; the tragic situation that happened, he called me every week since it happened,” he added.

Recall that Davido and his fiancee, Chioma Rowland, lost their only son, Ifeanyi in November 2022, shortly after his third-year birthday.

It was reported that the boy drowned in a pool at his father’s house in Banana Island and was rushed to a hospital at Lekki where he was pronounced dead.

Released in 2020, the song has won awards, received, and still topping charts two years down the line.

In the newly released Billboard year-end music recaps, Essence was named the number one song on the U.S. Afrobeats Songs category for 2022.

The song was nominated for Best Global Music performance at the Grammy Awards in 2022. Most recently, the track won the Favourite R&B song in the 50th edition of the American Music Awards.

The song, which featured Tems, became popular in the American music scene after several celebrities, including rap legend, Snoop Dogg and reality TV star, Kylie Jenner, posted videos of themselves vibing to the track in early 2021.

In August of the same year, Canadian superstar, Justin Bieber was featured on the song’s remix which became an instant favourite with listeners.

Following the creation of Billboard’s U.S. Afrobeats chart category in March 2021, Essence held the top spot on the chart in July.

It afterwards peaked at number 9 on the Hot 100 chart in October 2021.

Wizkid’s Made In Lagos (Deluxe)’ and Legacy+ by Femi Kuti and Made Kuti got nominations in the Best Global Music Album, while Best Global Music Performance gave Wizkid and Tems another nod for ‘Essence,’ and Burna Boy for ‘Do Yourself’ by Angelique Kidjo.

Other Africans like Angelique Kidjo got two Grammy nods: one alongside Burna Boy in the Best Global Music Performance and another for Mother Nature, her 2021 album. SCNSLY by Black Coffee also got a nod for Best Dance Album.

The awards will be presented on January 31, 2022.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed gave this congratulatory message in a statement issued in Lagos on Monday.

The Minister described the much-deserved awards as fitting rewards for the persistent hardwork of the duo.

He said the awards also represented a global endorsement for the Afrobeat genre of music that has propelled Nigeria’s increasing dominance of the music world.

Mohammed expressed the hope that the clinching of the prestigious awards by the two music stars would not only spur them to greater heights, but would also serve as a source of inspiration for others.

Due to the pandemic, there was no live audience for the Grammys this year, except for a limited number of performers and nominees.

Performers at the event included Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion.

There is a new twist to the story, as Jada who is also Wizkid’s baby mama and manager has come out to say that her Instagram account was hacked and the said post is false.

She said “My account was hacked in the late hours of Monday morning and my Instagram account was compromised. I can guarantee that the statement written was not by my hand. I can only apologise for any confusion, this may have caused. I have now recovered my account.”

Jada Pollock, who’s Wizkid’s third baby mama and manager, announced that she has stopped working with him as his manager over allegations of domestic violence.

Jada took to her Instagram stories on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, and shared a statement about her alleged abusive relationship with Wizkid.

She wrote “From today I and Ayo no longer work together. I’ve been in an abusive relationship with him for years covering for him time and time again. And I’m tired. Wiz continuously puts his hand on me, leaves me with bruises that I cover up from the world including my family and friends. It often feels like we are war in the same house. I have done all I can do to keep this all together but from today I let go. You can support someone as much as you can but at some point, you have to value yourself. I can’t raise my son in this kind of environment.”
