Christine Rollins cared for an elderly couple at their home in the small town of Anahuac.
“Unbelievably tragic. This is a very rare incident, just what little research we have found less than six of these have been reported in the nation,” Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne said.
Hawthorne said Monday the 84-year-old woman she cared for was waiting for Rollins to arrive on Sunday. The woman went outside and found the 59-year-old Rollins in the front yard between her car and the front door.
Hawthorne says Rollins had a severe head wound and several other injuries consistent with an animal bite. The coroner in neighbouring Jefferson County ruled Monday that Rollins bled to death after an attack by feral hogs. Texas’ KATU2 reported that the medical examiner said the cause of death was “exsanguination due to feral hog assault.
Anahuac is just over 40 miles east of Houston.

“This case serves as a great reminder that [the sheriff’s office] is determined to solve all cases despite the amount of time that passes after the commission of the crime,” Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith said at a news conference. “It often takes just one citizen to come forward with information to spark new life into a cold case.”
The “Baby Faith” case began on Aug. 24, 1996, after two 11-year-old boys discovered the body of a newborn girl with her umbilical cord still attached in the Horsetooth Reservoir, located just outside of Fort Collins.
A county coroner determined at the time the child died of asphyxiation, and the unidentified girl was later named “Baby Faith.”
“Investigators established this case was not related to a similar case in Pueblo known as the ‘Baby Hope’ case,” police said in a press release. “Investigators aggressively pursued all leads in the coming months, but eventually all leads were exhausted, and the case was declared cold.”

He bought an antique silver pocket knife online — as he apparently thought silver was the only way to kill her — and followed her to her apartment.
Akmal Rashidovich Azizov, 21, pleaded guilty Monday to trying to kill a woman because he thought she was a witch, according to a local report.
The 21-year-old, who was his high school’s valedictorian, said he “lost his nerve” and didn’t attack the woman then. But he went back later and attacked her.
Authorities said he slashed at the woman’s throat several times after attacking her from behind. The woman, who suffered “several injuries,” escaped to a neighbor’s apartment.
On Monday, Azizov pleaded guilty to attempted murder, stalking and criminal mischief, according to the Herald. He was initially charged with terrorizing, but that charge was dropped as part of a plea deal.
Azizov — whose lawyer says he is schizophrenic — is not an American citizen, the Herald reported, though it did not elaborate on his immigration status. He faces the possibility of being deported to Uzbekistan once his sentence is complete. Non-naturalized legal immigrants and undocumented immigrants alike who have committed crimes are subject to deportation.
He reportedly faces up to 20 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
