The interior ministry has said that explosives were detonated by three attackers outside the Afghan communication ministry in Kabul on Saturday.
Nasrat Rahimy, the interior ministry spokesman said that the attack happened around midday – not too long ago – and in response, a crisis squad has been instructed to go to the scene.
Rahimy also told CNN that one attacker is still battling with police in the yard of the ministry, while two of the attackers have been killed by special forces.
So far, there has been no immediate claim of responsibility.
However, according to a letter from Sultan Barakat of the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies at the Doha Institute, the attack follows a few months of relative calm in Kabul and comes 24 hours after US-led peace talks between Afghan leaders and the Taliban were further postponed “to build consensus as to who should participate in the conference.”
