Tinubu assents to Bill on uniformity in retirement age of Judicial Officers

President Bola Tinubu, in accordance with his authority derived from the amended 1999 Constitution, took a significant step on Thursday by assenting to a new amendment of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at the State House.

The President’s signature made the “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Fifth Alteration) (No.37), 2023” a legally binding document, which was presented by the outgoing 9th National Assembly.

One of the key provisions of this Constitutional Amendment Bill is the establishment of uniformity in the retirement age and pension rights of judicial officers.

This development ensures that the retirement age for judicial officers is consistent across the board, eliminating discrepancies and promoting fairness.

Upon signing the amendment Bill into law, President Tinubu expressed his administration’s unwavering commitment to fortifying the judiciary, upholding the rule of law, and equipping judicial officers to effectively carry out their responsibilities.

President Tinubu’s assent to the bill marks a significant milestone in the pursuit of judicial reform and the consolidation of the rule of law in Nigeria.

This development will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the judiciary while fostering a more harmonized retirement age and pension system for judicial officers.
