Tinubu establishes Federal Ministry of Livestock Development

President Bola Tinubu announced the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development on Tuesday.

This announcement was made during the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Livestock Reform Implementation Committee at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

While President Tinubu introduced the new ministry, he did not disclose the name of its minister. It is expected that a nominee will be forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation if it’s a new appointment.

The inauguration was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and other cabinet members.

This move follows President Tinubu’s approval on September 15, 2023, to establish a Presidential Committee dedicated to reforming the livestock industry and finding long-term solutions to the recurring conflicts between herders and farmers in Nigeria.

The committee’s formation was based on a report from the National Conference on Livestock Reforms and Mitigation of Associated Conflicts in Nigeria.
