Tinubu hasn’t approved any salary increase for political office holders – Presidency

The Presidency has refuted claims that it has authorized a salary increase for political office holders and judicial officers.

Dele Alake, the Special Adviser, Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, clarified the situation.

There had been a viral report suggesting that the government had approved a new payment structure that included salary increments for political office holders and judicial officers.

However, Mr. Alake responded to the report, stating, “We strongly deny the alleged 114% increase in the salary of President Bola Tinubu, Vice President, elected Federal and State political office holders, and judicial officers.”

He further emphasized that President Bola Tinubu had not sanctioned any salary increase, nor had any proposal been presented to him for consideration.

Alake clarified, “While we acknowledge that the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) is constitutionally responsible for proposing and determining the salaries and allowances of political office holders and judicial officers, such changes can only take effect after they have been duly considered and approved by the President.”

He also highlighted that the RMAFC had already addressed the false story through its Public Relations Manager, setting the record straight. Alake expressed concern about the dissemination of fake news and its detrimental effects on society and national well-being.

He believed that the misinformation was deliberately fabricated to undermine the new administration and hinder its positive momentum and widespread support from Nigerians due to its dynamic and progressive policies.

Alake urged journalists, media managers, and the general public to disregard any news concerning government activities and policy matters that do not originate from official communication channels.

He stressed the importance of cross-checking information to ensure accurate reporting, emphasizing that responsible journalism is characterized by such practices.
