Tinubu swears in three more ministers

President Bola Tinubu administered the oath of office to three additional ministers on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The new ministers, Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Ayodele Olawande, and Balarabe Lawal, officially assumed their roles during the ceremony.

The swearing-in took place at 12:15 pm in the Council Chamber of the State House, just prior to the commencement of the Federal Executive Council meeting, which President Tinubu presided over.

The Senate had cleared the trio for their ministerial positions after conducting a thorough screening on October 4, 2023, nearly two weeks before their official inauguration.

On September 17, 2023, President Tinubu nominated Jamila Bio Ibrahim and Ayodele Olawande as the Minister of Youth and Minister of State for Youth, respectively.

Additionally, he requested the Senate to screen Balarabe Lawal as the minister from Kaduna. Notably, Lawal, who previously served as the Secretary to the Government under former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has taken on the role of Minister of Environment in President Tinubu’s cabinet.

Jamila Bio Ibrahim, aged 37 and hailing from Kwara State, is a medical doctor, politician, development expert, and advocate of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Before her recent appointment, she held the position of National President of the APC Young Women Forum.

Ayodele Olawande, aged 34, is a community development expert and a prominent youth leader within the All Progressives Congress.

Prior to his nomination, Olawande served as the Special Adviser on Innovation in the office of the former President, Muhammadu Buhari, and the office of Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, from 2019 to 2023.

Before the commencement of the meeting, a minute’s silence was observed in honor of Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun, who passed away on July 1, 2023, at the age of 96. He had served as the Minister of Federal Capital during the Murtala Mohammed military regime from 1976 to 1979.

Monday’s meeting marked the second gathering of the Federal Executive Council since President Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023.
