Travelers complain on social media after Airport cancels all flights for two days

by Tolu Opatola

Flights from Manchester Airport were cancelled on Sunday and Monday after a cut in power caused a fueling problem. Scores and scores of passengers were left stranded in the hub.

A lot of passengers complained that they were made to wait for hours before being told that their flights were cancelled. Others complained that they were made to wait in a grounded aircraft for up to three hours. A total of 87 flights to different parts of the world including Nigeria were cancelled, 42 of them were arrivals while 45 were departures.

Over 13,000 passengers were affected by the problem on Sunday after it emerged around 2 pm.

Angry travelers labelled the situation as “absolute carnage”, “chaos” and a “total shambles”.

Someone posted: “Stranded at Manchester Airport, was supposed to be on the 17:45 flight to Prague. We don’t live in Manchester- will we be reimbursed for our flight and a train home?? Help been stuck in a non-moving queue for hours this isn’t acceptable.”

Long queues were seen at customer service, too.

Another person tweeted, “Flights have been cancelled while we were sat on the runway, and no replacement until Tuesday at earliest, I think I’m going to have to cancel my trip, what cancellation type do I come under? Extenuating circumstances? current customer services queue,”.

Pictures of people stuck in “non-moving queues” as passengers were posted on Twitter as passengers queried their rights. A lot of other passengers were stuck on grounded aircraft.

However, Airport Authorities have said that business is “back as usual” and flights have been rescheduled.

Passengers who are due to travel from Manchester have been advised to check for their flight status.

The Airport Authorities released a statement on Twitter on Tuesday

“Engineers have now resolved the power issue which affected the fuel supply.

Most scheduled flights will operate as planned today; however, we expect that there will be a small number of delays and cancellations as a result of the issues experienced yesterday.”
