US ambassador set to leave China

United States Ambassador to China, Terry Branstad, will leave Beijing soon.

Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, made the announcement on Monday.

He thanked Branstad for his more than three years of service to the American people as envoy to China.

“Ambassador Branstad has contributed to rebalancing U.S.-China relations so that it is results-oriented, reciprocal, and fair,” the senior official said.

Pompeo did not give a reason for Branstad’s exit.

CNN reported that Branstad would likely leave Beijing before the November 3 presidential election.
