Team USA have retained the women’s World Cup as Megan Rapinoe scored a penalty and Rose Lavelle scored a superb goal to seal a 2-0 victory over the Netherlands Women’s team.

The match didn’t provide any goal in the first half but USA finally went ahead just after the hour as Rapinoe stroked home from 12 yards to end the tournament as joint top scorer on six goals.

Rose Lavelle, who have been a standout performer over the last month, got the second goal in the 69th minute killing off Dutch hopes of a comeback.

This victory makes it the fourth time the US team will win the women’s World Cup.
