WAEC set to launch digital certificate to help those with missing documents

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is making plans to launch digital versions of the West African Senior School Certificate (WASSC) from a certain year for those who have lost their originals.

WAEC, Head of National Office (HNO), Mr. Patrick Areghan, made this announcement on Monday while addressing reporters ahead of WAEC’s Council meeting and 70th anniversary which will hold next week in Abuja.

According to him, the initiative would reduce the inconveniences people experienced after losing their certificates.

He added that the bearers of such lost certificates will now be able to request for digital copies from wherever they are.

Areghan said: “If you lose your certificate from a particular year, you do not need to panic. Just use your phone to access our website and your digital certificate will be there.”

Areghan said the digital certificate was one of many initiatives WAEC Nigeria introduced for improved operations of the Council in the last 70 years.

The HNO also spoke on digital examination centre locator; digitalising access to WAEC statistics, among others.

“Any service you want is available on our portal. With our centre locator, you can find any examination centre. WAEC has gone digital in all its operations,” he said.

Addressing reporters on the significance of the 70th anniversary, Areghan said Nigeria had played a significant role in WAEC’s development.

He added: “The success of WAEC is hinged on the support it garners from the government of the five-member countries, most especially the Nigeria national office, which holds a lot for the impressive score card that it flaunts in the comity of Educational Assessment Institutions.

“WAEC owes a lot of gratitude to the governments and good people of its member nations.”
