We’ll open reserves to address food costs — FG

Following a crucial meeting led by President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Government has pledged to release food reserves to tackle soaring food prices in Nigeria.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced this initiative after discussions by the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention, convened by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

The government aims to engage major millers and commodity traders to increase the availability of food items across the country.

Minister Idris emphasized the government’s commitment to intervene in the current food shortage crisis, addressing concerns about some individuals exploiting the situation.

During the meeting, attended by key figures including the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Minister of Finance, strategies were discussed to alleviate the hardship faced by Nigerians due to rising food costs.

Minister Idris assured continuous government action to alleviate the situation, with ongoing discussions set to provide a definitive solution soon.

Immediate actions will depend on subsequent meetings, with the government determined to provide relief to Nigerian households affected by the food scarcity.
