West Texas shooting suspects attack arrested drivers

A man was in custody on Friday in connection with four West Texas shootings this week targeting drivers who left one person dead and another injured, officials said.

In each case, the victim was in a vehicle that had broken down on the roadside in Ector County, and the suspect was a person in a white pickup truck who stopped to offer help, KOSA-TV reported.

“The Ector County Sheriff’s Office believes we have the individual responsible for the recent shootings in recent days in custody,” Sheriff Mike Giffis said on Friday night.

This person was not named. Local media reported that Griffis planned to release more details on Monday at a news conference.

Ector County includes Odessa, the site of a four-week shooting, in which seven people were killed and more than 20 others injured.

“I hate… this is happening in our hometown. Once again, ”Griffis said Friday before the suspect’s arrest.

The driver who was shot and killed had broken into a car near Interstate 20 on Thursday night, Odessa American said. He was not identified.

The other shootings took place on Tuesday over a 16-hour period. The person who was injured was shot in the abdomen, officials said.
