Why Doing Well In School Is Sometimes Not Enough

It is very saddening that we praise and support a failing system – the school system. A failing system because, it fails to teach how to survive in the real world – a topic that is left for the world to teach you – which may take you a long time if you were to figure it out alone. The school doesn’t teach you about money, rather, it builds you to become a good employee in another person’s business. Only to realize after long years of toil that you cannot “work” your way into riches and financial freedom.

A lot of people are told early on in their lives that money is not important, and that knowledge is but we fail to ask what type of knowledge exactly. The school is great when it comes to learning professional courses, and learning the technicalities of a particular field of study, but it doesn’t teach you about money!.

So, they encourage a lot of people to go to school and forget focusing on money because, “the time isn’t right”. Looking at it all critically, you’ll notice that money is, in fact, the main reason a lot of people want you to go to school. Not because knowledge is “that important”, or they need you to be “fulfilled”. They want you to go to school so that you can get a good job, and earn a decent income.

A quick example is this short dialogue:

Parent: “Son, what course do you wish to study in the university?”

Son: “Dad, I want to be an artist. You know, immerse myself in the world of arts, and create works that a lot of people can connect.”

Parent: “But that doesn’t pay you well, why not consider courses like accounting, medicine, engineering, and all those great courses?”

See that? The end of the whole process is so that you could get a “decent job”, with a nice income. If that is the reason, why don’t people want to learn how money works in the first place? And not leave it all to chance, leave it all to a boss?. This is however a result of two (2) fears;

1. The fear of losing money

The truth is that the main reason a lot of people don’t advocate running businesses, is that starting, and running a business is really risky. So, a lot of people realize how terrifying it is to lose money while running a business, and fear starting one. They just resolve to playing it safe and what happens? They tend to push that fear to their children, or people that they “care” about, so that they don’t make the same mistake, or bear the pain of losing something. They think that they are acting out of love but in fact, it is really out of ignorance – they haven’t really taken out time to really understand how it works.

2. The fear of being without money

A lot of people also fear being without money. Instead of tackling that problem, they try to play it safe by focusing on “their studies”, and following “the process” so that they can be rest assured that a “boss” somewhere in the future will take care of their money matters. So, that pushes a lot of people to read, and study, and work, and all that just because they cannot just stand being without money.

Conclusion

Drop out! (I’m just kidding!). But seriously, rather than get consumed by the thoughts of working for a boss, why don’t you start taking lessons on how to effectively handle your finances, build a business, make investments, and not rely on the school system or a boss to take care of that for you?.
