World Food Programme commits $2.5b to fight hunger in Nigeria

With over 133 million people in Nigeria affected by multidimensional poverty, the World Food Programme (WFP) has announced a significant commitment of $2.5 billion to combat hunger in Nigeria over the next five years.

This declaration came from the Country Director of WFP, David Stevesson, during a visit to the office of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, by a team from the United Nations agency.

Stevesson highlighted that 2.1 million Nigerians have already been included as beneficiaries of the program, and this number is set to expand with the assistance of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Minister Betta Edu expressed her appreciation for the visit and the financial support from WFP.

She noted that “zero hunger” is one of the projects initiated by her ministry as part of its efforts to address poverty and humanitarian challenges in Nigeria.
